    Not quite a nipple...

    Not quite a nipple...

Since Lainey’s birth, picture taking around this family has sky rocketed.  Every time a family member visits, they’re pulling out the cameras and snapping away. Couple that with requests for photos back and forth between us all and things get to be a mess quickly.

A few days ago I started looking around for an app to manage this huge influx of baby images. After considering a few for pay products, I discovered the totally free Picasa.

Previously, I simply had all my images stuffed in a single folder, all categorized very generally.  One sub folder might be called generically, “Sara_Family” and another “Concerts” and so on. But organizing files this way becomes limited very quickly, and forget about any kind of searching, tagging or casual browsing.

I installed Picasa last night and off it went indexing my entire collection. Tagging, editing and organizing photos is a breeze. But the real gem for me is the syncing you can do with your online Picasa account.  I love that I can edit photos and they’ll auto update online as well.

I can’t say enough good about this app. You all have to try it for yourselves. I just realized recently that I have over 10 gigs of pictures on my drive and now organizing them is something I think I may have fun doing. I’m discovering pics I forgot I had.

I’ve added a link in the left sidebar to my Picasa account. I’ve uploaded every picutre of Lainey we have so far (over 190 and counting as of now).  The really cool thing about the gallery is it allows you to order super cheap prints of any image you like. Simply click the pic you like and click the “Prints” then “order prints” button. When you’re finished, click “view order” and choose the company you want to buy from.  Personally, I’m partial to Snap Fish.

Have fun and leave any questions you have in the comments.

    Us @ 8 Months

In the midst of having my first child, I realized that I myself am still a child, or rather I am still a child at heart. Sure, I’m 25, have a mortgage, career and diploma on the wall and have been through a lot thus far, but seriously… who am I to have a child? I still watch cartoons and play video games every day!

I’ve realized that as I raise my baby, she’ll essentially be raising me too. In the blink of the eye, I am no longer the only guy in the room I have to watch out for. I am no longer the prime center of my universe. I am accountable for a human life.

The gravity of the situation is crushing, but I’ve had nine months to build my munitions mentally. My biggest fear rest not in whether I learn to change a diaper correctly or not, whether I feed or burp her enough or any of the countless other fears so many new parents become concerned with. My deepest fears lie in not meeting her exceptions as she inevitably becomes an adult.

This blog will chronicle my wife and my struggles, surprises and adventures. I expect some times will be good, others bad, hopefully more good than bad. Enjoy and I encourage everyone to read and comment often with your impressions, ideas and thoughts.

    Thanks for visiting RaisingDaddy.com
